Your Guide to Marketing Outsourcing in 2023

Considering budgeting for marketing support in 2023, but not sure where to start? If you are on a calendar fiscal year, it's highly likely that your budget season is in full swing, and perhaps even finishing up the process. Here are some areas to think about:

Marketing strategy - This might include a digital and content audit, audience research, persona development, key messaging work, unique content, promotion channel identification, marketing planning, and template creation. At the end of the process, you will know what to implement and will be equipped with the tools you need out of the gate and beyond.

Marketing audit - Simply looking for some data to inform your in-house strategy? This will look at website, email, and social media analytics, as well as the messaging, consistency, and frequency. You will know what is resonant, and where your areas of improvement lie.

Content marketing audit - Its purpose (IMHO) is to understand what content you currently have, what is effective, and what you can repurpose. If you aren't repurposing existing content, you are creating more work for yourself.

Social media strategy - This will glean on metrics and tell you where your audience lives digitally and what messages you should be relaying to them--in what manner and how often.

Content marketing strategy - Maybe you should start a podcast or a guest blog. Maybe you'll make great inroads as a guest blogger, op-ed writer, or social media influencer. Think of this through the lens of providing maximum value, with calls to action and sales messaging sprinkled in.

Copywriting - Don’t have in-house writing expertise? Staring at a blank screen isn’t a good use of your time. On a limited budget? Outsource long-form pieces that you can then repurpose for short-form output.

Marketing plan - Don't know how to deploy your marketing efforts? A marketing plan can be developed in different ways to give you a course of action.

Social media management - Social media is not for the faint of heart and it’s not something that can be done passively or “when you have time.” It requires thought and effort. If this is a big challenge for you, know that you aren’t alone.

Graphic design - Perhaps don’t have an in-house designer, but have more complex projects that require a trained artistic eye. Perhaps you have an in-house designer that has too much on their plate. Regardless of your situation, farming out projects to a freelance designer has many benefits.

This is not an exhaustive list as marketing can be sliced and diced in many ways. Outlining your 2023 marketing goals first will help you determine what tools and resources you need to be successful.
